Federico Mayor Zaragoza
He holds the title of Doctor in Pharmacy of the Universidad Complutense
de Madrid. During the twelve years he headed UNESCO (1987-1999),
Professor Mayor Zaragoza gave new momentum to the Organisation’s
mission “to build the bastions of peace in the minds
of men”. Upon
his return to Spain, he created the Fundación para una
Cultura de Paz, of which he is the president.
With this Foundation, established
in Madrid in March 2000, Professor Mayor continues the work he
had undertaken as Director General of UNESCO to promote the transition
from a culture of violence and imposition to one of peace and tolerance. |
Within the framework of Culture for Peace, he imparts courses
on issues of education, sources of conflicts, democracy and human rights.
He also organizes meetings and workshops in this respect.
In December 2000, he organized an International Encounter which was attended
by well-known personalities who battle for justice, freedom and peace.
Amongst a range of activities on national and international cooperation,
the creation of de Worldwide Forum of Civil Society “UBUNTU” stands out
as a Network of Networks with the intention to unite releases, positions
and proposals. This institution concentrates a major part of its activities
to the reformation of international institutions. |

Fred Matser
Fred Matser is a humanitarian, businessman and philanthropist who, like
many others, cares deeply about the future of the planet.
He has made it his life’s work to contribute towards creating a more functional
society by means of inspiration and empowerment.
Towards this end he has been a (co-)initiator, (co-)creator and (co-)financier
on a wide range of projects and over 15 foundations in both The Netherlands and
abroad since 1983. The projects as well as the Foundations encompass the fields
of healthcare, environment, peace and global transformation.

Most recently,
Fred was honoured to be invited to head the Dutch campaign for "Malaria
No More!" The campaign’s goals include increasing the supply
of "bed
nets" (mosquito nets for beds) to help eliminate malaria in a sustainable
way and contributing to increased awareness of malaria in the context of
primary healthcare.
On several projects he has had the privilege of working in close association
with many inspiring people including several well-known personalities, such as
Mikhail Gorbachev, Ruud Lubbers, Jane Goodall, Patch Adams and Jerry Jampolsky.
He has also participated in various international events for global transformation
including the State of the World Forum and, in September ’06, in the Table
of Free Voices in Berlin, an initiative created by Dropping Knowledge. |

Jaime Jaramillo. Papa Jaime
Jaime Jaramillo was born in Manizales-Caldas, Colombia. He
holds the title of Engineer in Geophysics, Oil Engineer and Professor in
Geophysical Prospecting and Exploration at the University of Montana, Austria.
He is the author of the books "Hijos de la Oscuridad", "El Cabalgante
de la Noche" and "Volver a lo Básico". His contribution
to peace and in the interest of society is highlighted through his work as founder
and president of the Foundation "Niños de los Andes".
He has laid the basics for a new social conscience, not only in Colombia,
but in many countries worldwide. “For me this
is the main thing if you help someone. Helping him, you are his world,
you are the most important person to him and that is where lays the difference.
You do not try to help a million people, no. But giving support
to that one person you are transforming him, you help him to see a new
world. This is my philosophy: help.”
He was honoured with several international awards.

Arcadi Oliveres
Arcadi Oliveres has devoted all his energy to a wide range of issues regarding
human rights, peace and social justice, standing out more specifically
for denouncing the external debt of the poorest countries and revealing
the staggering starvation figures.
He has denounced underdevelopment,
inequality, the unfair economical relations between North and South,
warfare, militarism, military research and expenditure.
He has demanded
the increase of development aid, agitated in favour of disarmament
and conscientious objection to military service and military expenditure.
He has promoted responsible consumption, ethical banking and new ways
of economy based on solidarity.

He has integrated teaching in his continuous
battles with the chair of professor at the Department of Applied Economy
at the UAB and of professor in various doctorates, masters and post-grade
courses at various universities (Universitat de Barcelona, Universitat
Politècnica de Catalunya, Universitat de Lleida, Universitat de
Girona, Instituto Sant Fructuos de Tarragona, Universitat de València
and Universitat de Castelló), besides giving courses in many summer
universities. |
