Presentation Deepak

The Alliance for a New Humanity was set up in 2003 as a result of a forum for reflection held in Puerto Rico which was attended by prominent figures from all walks of life. They included Nobel Peace laureates Betty Williams and Oscar Arias, the singer Ricky Martin, the judge Baltasar Garzón, the founder and president emeritus of the Inter Press Service Roberto Savio, and the human rights activist Kerry Kennedy.

The writer Ernesto Sabato called on people to “unite in order to regain... a narrative that incorporates us as brothers in the world... to recapture a space in people’s soul for a utopia that infuses values such as love for the human being, justice, a sense of honour and humility, honesty, respect for others, a quest for the sacredness of life.”

Encouraged by these words, the above group and others in attendance decided to form a human network: the Alliance for a New Humanity. This network established its standing as of 2003 by inviting those who are actively involved in personal and social exchange activities to pool their endeavours and resolve in order to create a critical body of action that would have a bearing on government policies and society in general with a view to building a sustainable, fair and peaceful world.

Humanists, writers, entrepreneurs, scientists, environmentalists, Nobel Peace laureates, human rights activists, artists, promoters of peace, spiritual guides, community and business transformation leaders and many others striving to change the world and to be the change are beginning to become acquainted with one another and to act in the common setting of the human agenda.

Barcelona -one of the world’s most dynamic cities- is at the forefront of social, environmental, economic and cultural change. It will be the emblematic venue for the launch of the Alliance in Europe for this new phase of expansion that seeks to involve a greater number of people in establishing a new society. From 7th to 9th November 2008, the 1st European Human Forum will be held under the theme Meetings for Personal and Social Transformation and it will bring together some 500 people of diverse backgrounds and occupations who believe that it is vital to make this change.

The Forum will unfold in a highly participative atmosphere where individuals from various walks of life are making a decided contribution with actions and ideas aimed at achieving the personal and social transformation of humankind. We will be providing you with details about the programme and we would very much like you to participate. We would be very pleased if you could grace us with your presence.

Please accept my very best wishes,

Deepak Chopra
